Adult Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder Symptoms and Internet Addiction in College Students: Prevalence and Differential Associations

<p style="text-align: justify;">This paper presents an investigation that aims to: 1) explore the relations between core symptoms of adult Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) several typical Internet activities, 2) compare predictive power two ADHD- inattention hyperactivity/impulsivity- in predicting addiction. Methods: A total 2016 Chinese college students participated this study. The ADHD were assessed using Conners self-rating scales DSM-5 semi-structured interviews. Structured Clinical Interview for Diagnostic Statistical Manual Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (SCID-5) was used to exclude other psychiatric disorders. Chen’s addiction scale (CIAS) evaluate Information about activities (e.g., online gaming) collected through a self-constructed questionnaire. Results: ratio problems among individuals with is significantly higher than ordinary (48.9% vs. 14.3%). Further, each symptom has unique different types activities. Specifically, both are negatively associated information downloading learning, positively gaming, while shopping only hyperactivity/impulsivity. Furthermore, significant predictors addiction, especially inattention. Conclusion: College at risk having peers without symptoms. For excessive gaming and/or behaviors, probability even higher. These findings have important implications identifying factors preventing Higher Education settings.</p>
